Teeth whitening can provide a dramatic difference in a short amount of time.

Teeth whitening is the most common cosmetic dentistry procedure because most people experience stained or discolored teeth at some point in their lives. While there are many options available for whitening teeth, not all of them are safe—some can erode tooth enamel, damage soft tissue, and cause tooth sensitivity. At Cambridge Family Dentistry, we only offer teeth whitening products that contain a base of water and fluoride, which provides impressive results without any discomfort or damage. Our teeth whitening treatments include:

Opalescence® Teeth Whitening
Opalescence is a teeth whitening product that’s only available for purchase from dental professionals. You can choose ready-to-wear trays or custom trays for at-home treatment or have Opalescence Boost applied right in our office. There’s no hot or uncomfortable light involved, since Opalescence doesn’t need to be activated.

Zoom Teeth Whitening
Zoom teeth whitening products are also available in take-home and in-office versions, depending on your needs. Zoom is particularly effective for patients with tooth discoloration caused by tetracycline. While these products are high-potency, they’re also gentle enough for even the most sensitive teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions About Teeth Whitening

What is the best whitener for your teeth?
Although there’s no shortage of inexpensive over-the-counter whitening treatments, for the best results, you’ll need to go to a dentist. We have access to stronger formulations for impressive results in a shorter amount of time. Both of the systems we offer at Belmont Family Dentistry are gentle yet effective.

Is whitening bad for your teeth?
Some types of whitening are bad for your teeth. Continually using abrasive whitening toothpastes, for example, can wear away your enamel over time. Other whitening treatments can cause tooth sensitivity or damage your gums and the soft tissues in your mouth. We’ve chosen to use Opalescence and Zoom because they don’t cause this kind of damage.

Can yellow teeth become white?
Yes, no matter what the cause of your yellow teeth, there’s a solution that can brighten your smile and restore your self-confidence.

Does insurance pay for teeth whitening?
No, because teeth whitening is a cosmetic treatment, insurance will not cover the costs.

Is teeth whitening permanent?
With diligent care and maintenance, teeth whitening can last for many months or even years. That said, if your tooth discoloration was caused by habits like drinking coffee or smoking, you can expect the stains to reoccur sooner.
